A Matte Base

Matte Base Urban Decay MAC Benefit Urban Decay

Usually, I am a huge fan of a matte base.  I love a touch of highlighter and some shimmery eye shadow, but I am not a girl after the dewy look.  I have spent so long powdering my skin to stop it looking oily that I'm not about to start using foundations and spritzes that add shine.  Lately I feel like I've mastered the matte base and I want to share the beauty bits I've been using.

Everyday, I proep my skin for makeup using the Benefit the POREfessional Matte Rescue primer.  It's a gel product which creates a smooth base to apply makeup too and keeps my makeup oil-free throughout the day.

After primer, I use the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup.  It's a medium coverage foundation which dries to a matte finish without looking flat or powdery.  After applying, my skin looks and feels velvety smooth.  Any imperfections I cover using it's concealer partner in crime.

I set my base using MAC Studio Fix powder.  It adds a hint of coverage and leaves my face matte and smooth.  This is where I apply any other powder products I am fancying (usually the Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Kit and the Urban Decay Afterglow Powder Blush in Video), then do my eyebrows and eye makeup.

To finish everything, I spritz my face with the best setting spray I've ever used: De-Slick from Urban Decay.  This gets rid of any parts of my face looking powdery, and when it dries it makes sure everything is matte but not flat.  Once dry, it keeps my makeup in place for so much longer than I can usually manage with my oily skin - I really notice if I don't use this.  I still need a powder top-up half way through the day, but this routine is the best I've tried so far!

How do you keep shine at bay?
